In honor of National Poetry Month, Mount Laurel Library is hosting a Blackout Poetry Workshop. Blackout poetry, also known as erasure poetry or redacted poetry, is a form of found poetry whereby participants use pages from a book and blackout words to create a poem. Unleash your creativity in a fun, creative, and supportive environment. For those who wish to, there will be an opportunity to share your poems. Advanced, beginner, and aspiring poets are welcome. All supplies provided. No registration required.
An example of blackout poetry:
From the book, Hello Beautiful, by Ann Napolitano, pp. 284-285:
Hell yeah. Right on.
Friend. Giantess.
People mistake my height for bravery.
I like you. Rolled her eyes.
I'm going to be honest. Start living more.
You poor chickadee. Unhappy on the inside.
Hide messiness.
I want better.
