MOUNT LAUREL, LET'S PUT SOME WILD IN YOUR YARD WITH BOBBIE J. HERBS

When I say ‘wild', I don’t mean lions, tigers and bears. What I mean is planting landscapes and gardens with native trees, shrubs and wildflowers. Plants that have evolved in Mount Laurel for thousands of years. They’ve adapted to our hurricanes, droughts, and unique soils. Therefore, they will thrive in our yards without extra water, additional fertilizers, and chemical inputs that harm beneficial insects and our waterways. Planting some wild, can also reduce expenses and time spent on yard work. Plus, the Mount Laurel Green Team recommends use of 75-80% native plants in your landscape for the health of our community. Plants suitable for your property will be discussed, as well as spaces where you can start small. You will also learn the benefits of gardening more on the wild side.  No registration required.

Instructor:  Bobbie J. Herbs is a certified Rutgers University Master Gardener and Environmental Steward. She earned her Ornamental Horticulture Certification at Longwood Gardens and serves on the board of the Native Plant Society of New Jersey. She transformed her tiny Mt Laurel backyard of turf grass into a biodiverse habitat serving as an oasis for her family, birds, bees, butterflies, and other wildlife. Her neighbors call her garden the nature center.
