October 7th is National Depression Screening Day and South Jersey Mental Health LLC will have a panel of psychologists who will speak to the community about depression and other related mental health issues. According to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), major depression is one of the most common mental illnesses in the United States, with an estimated 47.8 million adults experiencing a major depressive episode each year.

Speakers:

Dr. Ange Puig is the owner of Puig Associates, a psychology practice specializing in work with children, adults and families who have been impacted by trauma, violence or substance use disorders. With a background in Mindfulness, Clinical Hypnosis, and Solution Focused treatments, Dr. Puig has provided seminars to a variety of agencies and groups addressing issues such as: stress, sleep issues and chronic pain. Dr. Puig specializes in Trauma Informed Treatment using ACT approaches to Therapy.

Dr. Elaine Boland is a board certified behavioral sleep medicine specialist and licensed psychologist. Prior to opening her private practice in early 2025, Dr. Boland was an assistant professor at the University of Pennsylvania and Psychologist at the Philadelphia VA, where she conducted federally funded research on the links between sleep disruption and depression in older adults and women experiencing symptoms of perimenopause. She worked for over a decade for the Department of Veterans Affairs providing behavioral sleep treatments to veterans with insomnia and led nationwide trainings in behavioral sleep medicine. Dr. Boland will be speaking on the links between sleep and depression and ways that improving sleep can also help improve mood.
